2. What data we collect and why

When you make a donation

We collect the following personal data to process your donation:

Name and email address — to send a donation confirmation and maintain donation records
Home address and postcode — only if you elect to include Gift Aid. Required by HMRC to process Gift Aid reclaims
Gift Aid declaration — your confirmation that you are a UK taxpayer, recorded with date, time and IP address as required by HMRC
Donation details — amount, cause, donation type (one-off or monthly), and your optional message

Legal basis: Contract (processing your donation) and Legal Obligation (HMRC Gift Aid requirements).

When you use the Zakat Calculator

The Zakat Calculator runs entirely in your browser. No financial data you enter into the calculator is sent to our servers or stored. The calculator is stateless — refreshing the page clears all values.

When you subscribe to Zakat reminders

If you sign up for Ramadan and Zakat reminders, we store your email address solely to send those reminders. We do not share it with any third party.

Legal basis: Consent. You may withdraw at any time by emailing us or clicking the unsubscribe link in any email.

Technical data

Our web server records standard access logs (IP address, browser type, page visited, timestamp). These are used for security monitoring and are deleted after 30 days. We do not use tracking analytics or advertising cookies.

3. Cookies

This website uses a small number of cookies:

Cookie consent preference — a cookie stored locally in your browser recording that you have acknowledged this policy. Contains no personal data.
Stripe payment cookies — if you proceed to a donation checkout, Stripe (our payment processor) sets cookies necessary to process your payment securely. These are subject to Stripe's own privacy policy.

We do not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies. Google Fonts are loaded from Google's CDN — Google may log the font request IP address; see Google's privacy policy.

4. How we share your data

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We share data only as follows:

Stripe, Inc. — our payment processor. Stripe handles all card data. We never see or store your card number. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified. See Stripe's privacy policy.
HMRC — Gift Aid declaration details are submitted to HMRC as required by UK tax law when reclaiming Gift Aid.

5. How long we keep your data

Donation records and Gift Aid declarations — 7 years from the date of donation (HMRC requirement for Gift Aid records)
Email subscribers — until you unsubscribe
Server access logs — 30 days

6. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
Right to erasure — ask us to delete your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
Right to restrict processing — ask us to pause processing of your data
Right to data portability — request your data in a portable format
Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
