What counts as zakatable wealth?
Include the following in your Zakat calculation:
- Cash on hand and money in all bank accounts
- Gold (jewellery, coins, bullion) — at current market value
- Silver (jewellery, coins, bullion) — at current market value
- Stocks, shares and mutual funds — market value on your Zakat date
- Business inventory and trade stock — at cost value
- Money owed to you (receivables) — if likely to be repaid
- Pension savings — the accessible or withdrawable portion
- Crypto assets — at current market value
- Net rental income held above the Nisab for one lunar year
What is exempt from Zakat?
Do not include the following:
- Your primary home (the property you live in)
- Your car, clothing, and household goods
- Long-term locked pension funds you cannot access
- Property you live in — only investment property rental income counts
