Sadaqah Jariyah
Sadaqah Jariyah is ongoing charity whose reward continues long after the act of giving — one of the most beloved forms of voluntary charity in Islam.
What is Sadaqah Jariyah?
Sadaqah Jariyah (Arabic: صدقة جارية) means "flowing charity" — a gift that continues to benefit others, and thus continues to earn reward, even after the donor has died. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them." (Sahih Muslim)
Is restoring someone's sight Sadaqah Jariyah?
Yes. When you fund a cataract surgery that permanently restores a person's sight, the benefits of that gift continue for the rest of that person's life. They use their restored sight to work, to pray, to read the Quran, to care for their children. Every act of worship and benefit made possible by your gift potentially continues to earn you reward — making it one of the most powerful forms of Sadaqah Jariyah available today.
Difference between Zakat and Sadaqah
Zakat is obligatory — a precise 2.5% of qualifying wealth calculated annually. Sadaqah (including Sadaqah Jariyah) is voluntary — there is no minimum or maximum, and it can be given at any time, in any amount. Both are welcomed through World Aid Network and both go 100% to those in need. Read the full Sadaqah vs Zakat comparison →
Give as Sadaqah Jariyah
When you donate through World Aid Network, you can specify that your gift is given as Sadaqah (voluntary charity) rather than Zakat. The impact is identical — your funds go directly to cataract surgery and cancer treatment — but the intention is that of voluntary, ongoing charity rather than obligatory Zakat.
