A UK student loan balance is not automatically a deduction from your eligible wealth. Establish which repayments, if any, are currently required or qualify under your chosen scholarly method. A repayment already deducted from income must not be deducted again from an already reduced bank balance.

A balance is not necessarily a demand
Income-contingent student lending generally links required repayments to a plan’s conditions. The statement balance is different from an amount you must pay immediately. Use current repayment information and the ruling you follow rather than subtracting the whole statement balance.
Check a published liability method
NZF distinguishes loans not currently being repaid from required instalments and allows consideration of qualifying principal repayments for up to 12 lunar months, subject to its guidance on repayment ability. Interest is not included. This is one approach; it should not be presented as a universal rule across all schools.
Avoid deducting payroll payments twice
Your payslip shows a student-loan deduction and the remainder enters your bank. On your Zakat date the bank balance is £5,000. The payroll deduction has already happened: reducing £5,000 again by the same paid instalment counts it twice.
Any deduction for a separate qualifying future repayment must be established under your chosen method.
Documents to use
Keep the loan plan, repayment status, current statement and any relevant payroll record. This guide does not provide current repayment thresholds or decide whether borrowing is religiously permissible. Those are separate questions.
